I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised by this Doomdayer with his stern look among all those smiling and laughing people that Saturday night in Times Square. I think he is the first one I have even seen in person.
But, he certainly wasn’t the first to tell me according the Bible, the end will come tomorrow, next week, next month…take your pick. Someone is bound to have chosen that day as the last one. One of the first projects I did on my other blog (RJsCorner) was a 4-year study of the origins of the documents that make up his holy dogma. During that time, I read his bible from beginning to end, and also some of the others that weren’t destroyed by those men.
I am very aware that at the beginning of the Jesus movement, most were convinced that Christ (who they turned Jesus into) would return to end it all. As time went by, many grudgingly admitted that they got it wrong. But still, there are guys like the one above cling to Christ’s imminent return.
It should not be surprising that even the apostles who sat at his feet got it wrong in so many instances. Jesus even became frustrated with their inability to learn what he was trying to say to them.
So, here we are 2,000+ years later and many still don’t understand. I don’t know if they ever will…
