This was an early analog post of a flower I bought from my favorite local nursery last November. I bought seven young plants to put on my patio door shelves in my RetCom apartment. They are all doing very well. The prayer plant is now about four times its original size, as shown to the right.
Why is it called the “Prayer Plant”? Of course, I had to check that out. Here is what Google AI says about that:
The prayer plant is a colloquial term for plants in the genus Maranty. The name comes from the way the leaves fold up at night, resembling hands folded in prayer.
The scientific name for the prayer plant is Maranta leuconeura. It is a flowering plant native to the Brazilian tropical forests. Prayer plants can be tricky to grow at home because of their tropical origins.

I guess I never noticed the leaves folding up at night. I will have to check that out and let you know what I see.
