Grandma Moses started painting at 78, which is about where I am right now. So, maybe it’s not too late for me. 🥴
This mosaic is one of those I made when I was working in the analog mode. It was inspired by a photo I had taken several years before. I still get numerous compliments on this mosaic, so I thought I will finally post it here.
Since I officially opened this blog in mid-January I have been mainly concentrating on digital art, but I am finding that I am actually missing the messiness of the analog version, so look forward to some more colored pen drawings soon.
Getting on to the story, we spent a couple of years photographing barns during our roadtrips. This one was taken rather late during that period. I’m not sure just where it was taken, but I think it was somewhere in North Central Illinois.
Wooden barns are becoming quite rare now in the American landscape, but that is understandable. In 1920, 30% of the population were farmers. By the time I was born in 1946, that number had decreased to 17%. Now it is around 2%. Most of this is due to mechanization and the trend toward large corporate farms.
Sadly, these facts are stressing out some in rural America to the point of irrational panic.
